Different Rates For Different Needs
I offer three levels of editing, depending on what your manuscript needs. All prices are for both fiction and nonfiction.
1¢ per word
For manuscripts that are completed but still need a careful professional edit.
Copy editing focuses on:
- Grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Sentence structure and usage - Consistency and clarity
- Word choice and repetition
- Typos and other errors
- Maintaining your individual writing voice
Best for: Authors who are happy with their writing but want a thorough professional
cleanup before publication.
Enhanced Copy Editing
1.2–1.5¢ per word
Enhanced copy editing goes beyond correcting errors. I also polish your prose so your
writing is clearer, smoother, and more engaging—while preserving your voice and style.
In addition to everything included with Copy Editing, I may improve:
- Awkward or unclear sentences
- Wordiness and repetition
- Transitions and flow
- Word choice
- Readability and overall polish
- Consistency of tone and style
Best for: Authors who want their manuscript not only corrected, but polished to a
professional standard.
Developmental Editing
2–3¢ per word
Developmental editing looks at the big picture of your manuscript rather than focusing
primarily on grammar and punctuation.
Depending on your project, developmental editing may address:
- Overall structure and organization
- Plot and story development
- Pacing
- Character development
- Dialogue
- Chapters and Scenes
- Clarity and continuity
Areas where the manuscript may need expansion or tightening
Best for: Authors who know their manuscript needs more substantial work before it is
ready for publication.

Because editing is priced by word count, you can estimate your project cost before getting started. For example:
Copy Editing
50,000 words: $500
75,000 words: $750
100,000 words: $1,000
Enhanced Editing
50,000 words: $600–$750
75,000 words: $900–$1,125
100,000 words: $1,200–$1,500
Developmental Editing is on average 2.5 cents per word, based on the manuscript and scope of work.
